Abstract

In our investigation the relaxant effect of the alkaloids 1-O-benzoylnapelline and 6-O-benzoylgeteratizine on the rat aorta was studied. These alkaloids effectively relax the aortic contraction induced by KCI (30 mM). It would be concluded that the glibenclamide significantly reduces the relaxing effect of alkaloids on the basis of it, and can be assumed that the activation of ATP-dependently potassium channels which is involved in the mechanism of action. In contrast to glibenclamide, the effects of TEA, BaCl2 and 4-aminopyridine on relaxation caused by 1-O-benzoylnapelline and 6-O-benzoylheteratisine were less pronounced and did not significantly affect this process. This indicates that these alkaloids do not significantly affect the activity of Kca, K+V, and KIR channels of rat aortic smooth muscle cells.
